MTV to launch Arabic version

MTV is about to launch an Arabic version called MTV Arabiya.

According to soundvenue.com the intention is that MTV Arabiya will start broadcasting late 2007.

The plan is to show music videos and programmes focusing on music and lifestyle. In addition to this there will also be news, interviews, documentaries and reality shows. MTV Arabiya will also show locally produced programmes.

The Arabic countries' view of what is acceptable is not the same as the western view. This will also reflect on what will be broacasted. Some of MTV's regular programmes will because of this not be shown on MTV Arabiya.
